How Do You Keep Your Kids Busy This Winter?

One of the best ways to keep your little ones busy (and having fun) this winter is to let them create some festive winter crafts! Let them make snowflakes, penguins, and owls and they will forget all about playing outside! Here are four fun DIY winter crafts to help spark their creativity.

  1. Peanut Butter Bird Feeder
  2. FIngerprint Snow Globe
  3. Snowy Owl Pinecone
  4. Handprint Penguin
  5. Watercolor Snowflakes

1) Peanut Butter Bird Feeder

Making peanut butter bird feeder is the perfect way to get your kids from being bored and it helps feed the birds, too! After your little one makes theirs, you can hang them up and watch the birds flock to it from the window! It’s easy! All you need is:

  • an empty toilet paper roll
  • some ribbon or twine
  • peanut butter
  • bird seed!

Spread the peanut butter on the cardboard tube and then roll it in birdseed. Lace the ribbon through and hang it up on an outside tree. The birds will be pleased and then you can teach your little ones about the different birds native to your area!

2) Fingerprint Snow Globe

This DIY craft not only gives your kids an indoor activity to do, but creates a perfect keepsake for mom, dad, or grandparents! All you need is some construction paper, paints, glue, and anything else they might want to decorate their globe with. Cut out one circle with a lighter color and glue it to a triangle base to make the shape of a snow globe. Let your little one paint a scene, snowman, or anything else they would like inside the globe. Then, use their fingerprints to make dots and make the snow!

3) Snowy Owl Pinecone

This easy craft is fun and easy to do! Find a pinecone in the yard, then grab some cotton balls and let your children shred them and pull them apart. Next, let them stuff and glue the cotton between the pine cone seeds, leaving the bottom half inch open for their feet. Glue on some googly eyes (or construction paper with eyes drawn on), and a brown pipe-cleaner beak, and there you have an adorable snowy owl!

4) Watercolor Snowflakes

Winter is known for snow, so what better DIY craft than making snowflakes? These watercolor snowflakes are easy and fun to make! All you need is:

  • Coffee filters
  • Water paints
  • scissors

These simple and fun snowflakes can be made by wetting coffee filters and dropping colors onto the paper. Allow these to dry and then fold over three or four times to make a triangle. Cut out various small shapes and notches and when you unfold them, your little one will have colorful and decorative snowflakes perfect for hanging on the windows or refrigerator!
